Many original speakers now look
like this one below:
No wonder that the
sound quality leaves a bit to be desired
Earlier models use 10 cm
speakers while later models (from around 1986 on) use 13 cm speakers.
The speaker frames are dimensionally identical except for the center
cutout, so an upgrade to the larger 13 cm speaker can be done without
having to modify the doors.
I
upgraded to 13 cm models and had good experience with Pioneer TS-G1323i
speakers. The improvement in sound quality was astonishing.
I bought a 114 mm
hole saw to reproduce exact copies of the later speaker frames.
Should you need the later frames, I can provide these.
